ABOUT CALGARY

Calgary, Alberta, 'Heart of the New West' is one of Canada's fastest growing cities with a metropolitan population of 1,214,839 (2011), and is the largest city in Alberta and the fifth largest city in Canada.

Located in the southern part of Alberta, Calgary is in the Grassland Region, situated in the eastern foothills of the Canadian Rockies and lies where the Bow and Elbow rivers meet. The city has the sunniest climate in Canada with low rainfall. Winters are long and cold and summers are short and warm.

Calgary is a modern, cosmopolitan city with a casual and relaxed atmosphere offering its residents a diverse range of restaurants, theatres, festivals, parks and pathways, specialty shops and night spots. The city offers its residents 7,500 hectares of parks and open spaces and 600 kilometers of paved pathways for cycling and walking.

The Rocky Mountains provides the city's scenic backdrop and can be seen from many city vantage points. Kananaskis, Canmore and Bragg Creek are within an hour's drive and Banff National Park is only a bit further offering year-round activities such as golfing and hiking, fishing and mountain biking, skiing and even dog-sledding.
